La Marató de 3Cat brings the fight against cancer closer to high school students

16/10/2025

The session, led by volunteer Marcos and organized by the La Marató de 3Cat Foundation, introduced students to the reality of cancer and its impact in Catalonia

This morning, 1st-year high school students participated in an educational talk about cancer, organized by the La Marató de 3Cat Foundation. The activity is part of the educational program accompanying each edition of La Marató and aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of biomedical research and solidarity.

The session was led by volunteer Marcos, who explained clearly and accessibly what cancer is, how it develops, and the main challenges facing the scientific community. During the talk, Marcos highlighted that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will experience cancer in their lifetime, and that this disease affects everyone, being the leading cause of death in men and the second in women.

In Catalonia, in 2024, 17,000 people died from cancer, while 42,000 new cases were diagnosed, figures that underline the importance of research, prevention, and public awareness.

Students actively participated, asking questions and reflecting on how scientific knowledge and prevention can improve health and quality of life. The activity also served to promote values such as solidarity, empathy, and social responsibility, key aspects of the school’s educational project.
