The 8th “España Solidaria” School Literary Contest, aimed at 3rd and 4th year secondary students in Catalonia, has once again showcased students’ creative talent. The challenge invited participants to choose a painting by Goya, Velázquez, or Sorolla and write a story inspired by the hidden narrative behind the artwork.
Among the submitted works, the jury especially highlighted Pau García, the winner of the contest, who crafted a story based on the painting Las Lanzas by Velázquez. His piece stood out for its narrative richness and its ability to transport the reader into the depicted scene.
Iñaki Álvarez was also recognized for his powerful and emotional story inspired by The Third of May 1808 by Goya. His work impressed for the depth with which he interpreted the events and characters in the painting.
The contest, organized by the Asociación por la Tolerancia, had a submission deadline of February 21, 2026, coinciding with International Mother Language Day. This initiative strengthens the connection between literature and painting and encourages artistic reflection among young people.
